Justin was inspired to set up the group in 2017 after attending a 999 call as a Paramedic in a public place which had a defibrillator, but the public were afraid to use it and no one was trained to perform CPR. The resuscitation attempt was unsuccessful. He is driven to ensure as many people as possible know how to save a life because “every heart matters”.

Justin first learnt and taught first aid as a cadet with the Army Cadet Force and qualified as a British Heart Foundation Heartstart Trainer aged 19 and they inspired his medical and education careers. He started his career as a Combat Medical Technician with the British Army Reserves and later joined London Ambulance Service NHS Trust as an Emergency Medical Technician in 2014 and later qualified as a Paramedic.

Education

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Practice from St Georges Hospital Medical School, the University of London, is a qualified teacher with a Certificate in Education (University of Wales, Newport) and an MA in Education and Training (University of Wales, Trinity St Davids). He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Society of Education and Training.

In his day job, he is a Specialist Lecturer Practitioner (Paramedic) for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust and is an Associate Lecturer in Paramedic Science and Medical and Healthcare Education at Anglia Ruskin University. He is passionate about inclusive education, and has a hidden disability himself. He has recently graduated from the Calibre Leadership programme for Disabled Leaders.

Justin also volunteers as a Magistrate with His Majesty’s Court and Tribunal Service, with St John Ambulance and the UK Resuscitation Council.
